DescriptionThe sitter was a master pilot for the port of Savannah from 1917 to 1946 and general manager of the Atlantic Towing Company from 1920 to 1968. He was known for his civil rights activism and served for 18 years on the Chatham County Board of Education, after which an elementary school was named for him.
